I have been a business advisor for many years and I have practiced in both the public and private sectors (both very different!). I have advised many entreprenuers and established businesses how to grow, how to develop, expand, plan, invest and apply for financial support. Its quite different advising a business owner to actually being a business owner.
I moved from the public sector into the private sector 5 years ago developing a vocational training company called kickstart2employment (notice a theme with the business names!). Over the 5 years there have been many ups and downs and it has been a massive learning curve for me, and a very fast one. I have developed a business from scratch with a small dedicated groups of friends and I have seen it develop and grow into a fully fledged SME employing many people. I can now safely say that, not only have I got the academic and theorectical knowledge, I now have the experience and practical knowledge too. As I mentioned earlier, these can be at quite opposite ends of the spectrum. I am now at a very exciting time of my career. I am starting up my own strategic business consultancy. This is both thrilling and nerve wracking at the same time. I feel it is the right time for me to combine my skills, knowledge and experience to help new and existing business to achieve their potential. I have always referred to a 14th century proverb "from little acorns do oak trees grow". I'ved used it many times, both personally and professionally. Now its time for me to grow my own little acorn.
